Dermal Fillers / Lip Injections / Juvederm (pricing at bottom of page)
Q: How is receiving dermal fillers and lip injections different at Honolulu Dermatology?
A: Our board certified dermatologist performs an in-depth consultation prior to your dermal filler and lip injections to determine how to best meet your goals. This consultation is included in the price of the dermal filler and lip injections and during this consultation the dermatologist can address any other medical or cosmetic dermatology issues. All dermal filler and lip injections at Honolulu Dermatology are performed by Amber Gill MD, a board certified dermatologist who has several years of formal training and extensive experience with dermal filler and lip injections.
Q: Should I shop for fillers and lip injections by price?
A: Each person’s needs when it comes to the injection points and amount of filler needed is completely different. Dr. Gill’s extensive experience and skill allows her to customize where and how much filler to inject for each unique patient. The same amount of filler injected by someone with less experience and skill may have inferior results.
Q: What are dermal fillers?
A: Dermal fillers are injectable gels used to help correct age-related volume loss, facial folds, wrinkles and fine lines. Dermal fillers can also be used to diminish scars, rejuvenate hands and for natural looking lip augmentation. There are many brand names of dermal fillers including the Juvederm family (Juvederm Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure), Belotero and Radiesse. Most dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, while Radiesse is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite.
Q: How do dermal fillers work?
A: Dermal fillers restore lost volume and correct wrinkles wherever they are injected. The results you see depend largely on the experience of the person performing this procedure. It is important to choose a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to inject fillers as the treatment requires both medical knowledge and an aesthetic eye.
Q: What is the "down-time" with dermal fillers?
A: Most people can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. However, it is recommended that patients avoid strenuous exercise, extreme heat and alcohol consumption for 24 hours.
Q: How long does it take to see full results?
A: The effect of dermal fillers is immediate and lasts 6 months to 2 years depending on which filler is used. Some fillers also stimulate your body to produce new collagen over time.
Q: Are dermal fillers permanent?
A: No. Results last an average of 6 months to 2 years depending on the amount and type of filler used and the areas treated. The body naturally dissolves the filler over time.
Q: Are dermal fillers safe?
A: Dermal fillers are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), however, like all procedures, there are risks and possible complications. The most common side effect is temporary swelling and bruising. Rarely, patients may experience other complications. Dermal fillers should be avoided if you have a history of multiple, severe allergic reactions. It is important to ask about the amount and type of formal training your injector has in placing dermal fillers and in dealing with adverse outcomes.
